Tuesday, November 21 – Day 3: Journey north

After breakfast (at our hotel), We will leave Tel Aviv and drive north along the coastal Plain of Sharon, the coastal road, which once linked Egypt and Babylon. We will stop at the ancient city of Caesarea, built by Herod the Great and once occupied by Roman rule. Caesarea is also where Pontius Pilate had his base; where Cornelius lived and was baptized (Acts 10); where Paul (Shaul) embarked to Tarsus (Acts 9:30) and where Philip preached (Acts 8:40). We will view the excavated Roman theatre, with its acoustic and theatrical sound. It was used for many performances throughout the centuries. We turn inland and proceed to Megiddo, one of King Solomon’s fortified cities (1st Kings 9:15; 10:26), with ruins of 20 levels of civilization and identified as the site of Armageddon. From here, the Books of Daniel and Revelation will come alive as we read about the final Battle of Armageddon, while viewing the Plains of Jezreel. We will continue to Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus (Yeshua). Here we will visit the Grotto of the Annunciation and the Church of St. Joseph (Yosef). These churches are located over the traditional site where Mary (Miriam) and Joseph (Yosef) lived. We will also visit the site of the Synagogue of Nazareth where Jesus (Yeshua) preached his first sermon, and stop at the ancient City “well”, where it may have been the site where Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary (Miriam). Nearby, we will visit Nazareth Village, an open air museum, reenacting a 2000 year old village (of Nazareth) at the time of Jesus (Yeshua). We will drive through the Pastoral Hills of the Galilee to our kibbutz hotel for check-in with welcome refreshments. In the evening, enjoy a relaxing dinner at our kibbutz, followed by a kibbutz presentation of kibbutz life.

Overnight in the Upper Galilee.

Wednesday, November 22 – Day 4: Golan Heights and Western Galilee

After breakfast, we will start our day with a drive to visit Banias, one of the sources of the River Jordan and the site of ancient Caesaria Philippi, where Peter made his confession of faith in Christ (Matt. 16:16). We will drive back south towards the mystical City of Safed, which is considered to be one of the Four Holy cities according to tradition and its Kabalistic studies. We will stroll through the narrow, winding alleys; visit some of the beautiful synagogues and browse through the artists’ workshops and galleries found in the flourishing artists’ quarter. We will continue south to Kibbutz Nof Ginosar for a St. Peter’s fish lunch. After lunch, we will visit Yigal Alon Museum, where the “Jesus boat” is displayed. The Jesus Boat is an ancient fishing boat from the 1st century was found at the bottom of Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) and was restored to its original look. We will board a boat for a short cruise on the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum (Kfar Nachum), the center of Jesus’ Galilean ministry and the site of many of His miracles (Mark 2:4; Matt. 8:5; 14-17; 9:1-7; 17:18). We will continue south to Western Galilee to visit Tabgha, the site of the multiplication of the loaves and the fishes (John 6:1-14). Nearby, we will visit the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus (Yeshua) delivered perhaps the most significant sermon ever preached – “The Sermon On The Mount” (Matt. 5). We will return back to our hotel, via Yardenit, where we will have a chance to be baptized in the Jordan River. Enjoy another relaxing dinner at our kibbutz.

Overnight in the Upper Galilee.

Thursday, November 23 – Day 5: Golan Heights and Western Galilee to the Dead Sea

After breakfast, we will leave Tiberias and drive south through the lush Jordan Valley, where the dessert now blooms with flowers and vegetation (Isaiah 35:1-2). As we get closer to the shores of the Dead Sea, we will start to descend to the lowest point on the surface of the earth at 1305 feet (398m) below sea level. We will drive along the shores of the Dead Sea and stop for a visit of Qumran, where a young shepherd boy discovered the Dead Sea Scrolls. We will drive further south to the Dead Sea resort of Ein Bokek, where we will check-in to our hotel. Enjoy the remaining of the afternoon at leisure floating in the unsinkable waters of the Dead Sea. In the evening, enjoy dinner at our hotel.

Dead Sea - TAK Israel Tour

Friday, November 24 – Day 6: Dead Sea to Jerusalem

After breakfast at our hotel in Ein Bokek, we will enjoy the morning at leisure. There will be an optional excursion to Ein Gedi at 09:00 AM (must register in advance – free). Ein Gedi reserve is an Oasis in the desert, with several waterfalls, including David’s Falls and beautiful garden surroundings. Ein Gedi is mentioned several times in the bible, especially in the book of Samuel, where David hid from King Saul. In the caves above, many believe this was the site David wrote the book of Psalms and where he prayed to God. We will return back to our hotel. At approximately noon time, we will journey back north to the legendary mountaintop plateau of Masada. We will ascend by cable car to the ancient synagogue and to explore the ancient fortress. This was the story, of the last stronghold of the Jewish Zealots in their struggle against the Romans. The Zealots held out for three years against the legions of Flavius Silva and chose to die as free men at their own hands in preference to Roman slavery. From the top of Masada, the outlines of the Roman encampments are still visible below. Upon our arrival in Jerusalem, we will stop at Mt. of Olives for a beautiful panoramic view of Jerusalem. We will recite a traditional Sheyechyanu blessing for our arrival to this special city. If time permits, we will enter into the Old City via the Dung Gate to witness Shabbat at the Western Wall. We will arrive to our hotel for check-in. Enjoy Shabbat dinner at our hotel.

Saturday, November 25 – Day 7: Jerusalem

After breakfast, we will start the day with a drive back to Mount of Olives to visit the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus (Yeshua) prayed in many occasions and where Jesus (Yeshua) was arrested. Here, we will also have the option to visit the Church of All Nations. We will attend a Messianic service in Jerusalem. After service, we will continue to Mt. Zion to visit the Upper Room and David’s Tomb, where the Last Supper was held (Mark 14.13, Luke 22. 10-38, Matt 26 17-29, Acts 1.13 and Acts 2). Nearby, we will visit the House of Caiaphas – the high priest who interrogated Jesus (Yeshua) the night of His arrest (Mark 14:53- 65). We will proceed to Israel Museum to see the model city of Jerusalem as it used to look like in 66 CE. In that fateful year, the Great Revolt against the Romans erupted, resulting in the destruction of the city and the Temple. The ancient city was then at its largest, covering an area of 445 acres (more than twice the size of the Old City today). In the same complex, we will also visit the Shrine of the Book. Here we will see the original Dead Sea scrolls and where they are housed. We return to Jerusalem. Enjoy dinner at our hotel. After dinner, we will be transferred to Tower of David to see a spectacular sound and light show.

Sunday, November 26 – Day 8: City of David, Jerusalem, Bethlehem

After breakfast, we will visit City of David. The tour of City of David begins with a breathtaking observation point overlooking Biblical Jerusalem which sends visitors 3,800 years back in time to the days of Abraham, when the first foundations of the city were laid. The journey quickly heads underground to some of the newest archaeological excavations at the site. Here, while exploring the recently excavated fortresses and passageways, visitors relive King David’s conquest of the Jebusite city as described in the 2nd Book of Samuel. The underground tour finally ends at the Gihon Spring, the major water source of Jerusalem for over 1,000 years. Today, it still holds a foot of water to walk on (summer only). We will continue to Bethlehem. We will arrive at Manger Square and enter into the Church of the Nativity. It is believed by many that this was the site of Jesus’ (Yeshua’)’ birth place. We will proceed to Yad Vashem – the Israeli Holocaust memorial, where six million Jews perished in the Holocaust in Nazi Germany. We will walk through the New Historical Museum, the Children’s Hall, and the Memorial Hall and view the recently constructed Memorial to the Deportees. We will conclude our day and drive to our hotel. Enjoy dinner at our hotel.

Western Wall - Temple Mount - TAK Israel Tour

Monday, November 27 – Day 9: Jerusalem – Old City

After breakfast, we will drive to the Old City and enter through the Dung Gate. Our first stop will be the Southern Wall excavations. Here, we will see the beauty of the ruins, including the famous Robinson Arch, which used to lead the high priests into the Temple. We will proceed through the broad stone stairway down to the Western Wall, also known as the “Kotel” to see Judaism Holiest place. We will begin at the passageways descending through the many layers of Jerusalem’s past through the Western Wall Tunnels, also called “The Rabbi’s Tunnels”. Inside, a most interesting model shows the different dwelling periods and history of the inhabitants of Jerusalem. We will stand on the site believed to be the nearest spot to the “Holy of all Holies” for Jews around the world. We will exit along the Christian Quarter to see the Pool of Bethesda, where Jesus (Yeshua) healed a lame man (John 5). From here we will retrace the steps of Jesus (Yeshua) along the Via Dolorosa (the way of the cross) and its stations. We pass through the colorful bazaars, alleyways and marketplaces to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (optional visit). We will proceed to the Jewish Quarter, which was reconstructed after the city was unified at the conclusion of the Six-Day War in 1967. After lunch (own expense), a special point of interest in the restored Jewish Quarter is the “Cardo”, meaning the “heart” of this ancient Byzantine City. We will view the unearthed main Roman thoroughfare and ancient marketplace lined with columns. We will have some time to wander the old city bazaar and test our negotiation skills. We will conclude our day with a communion at the Garden Tomb. It is believed by many, this was the site of Golgotha, where Jesus (Yeshua) was crucified, buried and resurrected. We will conclude our day and drive to our hotel. Enjoy dinner at our hotel.
